About me.

The Kmetzos!
EVK Consulting
Your Family's Personal Coach and Navigator
Hi! I’m Lizzy Kmetzo.
I’m an educator, educational consultant, special education advocate, and- most importantly- mom to my two wonderful boys, Charlie (7) and Connor (4).
Long before EVK Consulting, LLC, my career was rooted in education. I earned my Master’s degree in Childhood and Special Education and spent years working in prestigious independent schools as a classroom teacher, special educator, admissions professional, and administrator. Along the way, I wore just about every school hat imaginable—from Kindergarten teacher and Director of After School Programming to Service Learning and Outreach Coordinator, STEAM consultant, and member of Admissions teams.
Then I became a mom, and my understanding of education changed entirely.
When my older son, Charlie, was diagnosed with Autism, my professional training suddenly became deeply personal. I found myself navigating evaluations, therapies, providers, insurance, school options, special education services, and all of the decisions that come with trying to figure out what your child needs- and where to find it.
I knew education. I knew schools. I had a Master’s degree in Special Education. And I still found the process overwhelming.
That experience ultimately became the heart behind EVK Consulting, LLC.
An Educational Concierge for Families
I founded EVK Consulting, LLC to provide families with the kind of individualized, practical support I so often wished I had: someone knowledgeable in your corner who can help you understand the options, make sense of the information, and figure out what comes next- and hold your hand along the way.
My work brings together three areas that have shaped my career and my life: school admissions and educational consulting, academic support, and special education advocacy.
For families navigating independent schools, I provide personalized guidance throughout the school selection and admissions process—from identifying schools that are genuinely a good fit to application support, parent guidance, and developmentally appropriate preparation for children.
As a COPAA BSEAT Certified Non-Attorney Special Education Advocate, I also work alongside families navigating IEPs, 504 Plans, evaluations, school-based services, and special education programming. My support often extends beyond the school meeting itself to helping families understand evaluations, explore therapeutic and educational options, coordinate care, and create a practical roadmap forward.
This work is especially close to my heart because I understand what it feels like to sit on both sides of the table. I know the language of schools and educators, but I also know what it feels like to be the parent sitting in the meeting, trying to absorb an enormous amount of emotionally charged information while making consequential decisions for your child.
My goal is to bridge those two worlds.
Supporting the Whole Child and Family
At its core, my approach is highly individualized. There is no one-size-fits-all child, which means there shouldn’t be a one-size-fits-all approach to supporting one.
I work with both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, tailoring academic support to each student’s strengths, learning style, interests, sensory profile, and areas in need of reinforcement. Sessions may focus on literacy, math, executive functioning, social-emotional development, or enrichment—and sometimes the best learning happens through a STEAM challenge, a favorite topic, a game, or an activity a child doesn’t even realize is “work.”
I believe children learn best when they feel understood, capable, and connected to the person working with them.
And I believe parents deserve to feel that way, too.
Whether your family is choosing a school, navigating admissions, trying to understand an evaluation, preparing for an IEP meeting, looking for the right therapeutic supports, or simply wondering “What do we do next?” – my job is to bring clarity to the process and help you move forward with confidence.
Outside of EVK, you can usually find me with my family -preferably outside, at the beach, eating Friday-night takeout pizza, or spending as much time as possible in Rhode Island. Dance parties with my children are my jam – literally – although you may also pull up alongside me on I-95 having a solo dance party to anything from Van Morrison and James Taylor to Ja Rule. And then there’s Harry, our mini-Golden Retriever, who is a complete diva and very much runs the household.
If your family could use some guidance, advocacy, or educational support, I would love to connect.
You don’t have to navigate the educational journey alone. I’ll be alongside you every step of the way.
I want to take a moment to personally express how deeply grateful I am for your support. Your guidance and encouragement for our family in its entirety has been invaluable. We are endlessly fortunate to have crossed paths with you.J.G.
Lizzy is incredibly kind, understanding and compassionate. She helped us navigate a cross country move and all of the logistics involved with finding the right school district to meet the needs of my children. She has a unique background and set of skills in that she can assess a project or concern through both a “special needs” lens and a “mom” lens. She is responsive and thorough. She didn’t feel like a consultant but more like a friend. I highly recommend her!Anonymous
You truly show how deeply you care about helping us find the best educational path. It’s uncommon to meet someone so thoughtful and committed. You always seem to know what we need, when we need it, and your encouragement arrives at exactly the right moments. We’re already seeing such wonderful growth in our child, and I genuinely hope we can continue working together long after the application process is behind us.D.T.
